Sleep Deprived?

Has the lack of sleep leave you feeling moody, lethargic and suffering with brain fog? Do you find yourself always reaching for that cup of coffee just to be able to get stuff done during the day?

Sleep deprivation is something that affects everyone at some stage.. Sometimes our bodies get so used to lack of sleep that we use supplements, caffeine and finally feel burn out.

How do we get back to sleeping well? Not just sleeping for those recommended hours at night, But getting a good quality of sleep.

There are a lot of factors that can influence having a good sleep. I will touch on a few:

Most people sometimes go to bed after having a heavy meal therefore causing indigestion and being uncomfortable. It advisable to eat about 3 hours before bed. If you have digestive issues that affect your sleep Digestzen Essential oil is really good to help ease digestion, relieve bloating, gas and constipation.

Staying hydrated is also important as when we sleep we perspire and the body needs hydration to function. Try drinking a glass of water before bed.

Try not to use your cell phones or tablets before sleep as they emit a blue light which effects sleep patterns.

Taking an Epsom Salt bath with Bicarb and Lavender essential oil will help relieve all the aches of the day and help put your body in a relaxed state for sleep.

Magnesium supplements are great to take before sleep as they assist the body on getting a good quality sleep.

Tryptophan rich foods can help ( Tryptophan increases serotonin which also increases melatonin both are neurotransmitters important for sleep). Great foods rich in tryptophan are Turkey, Chicken, Milk, Nuts, Fatty Fish,Eggs.

The saying to have a warm glass of milk before bed normally at times helps for sleeplessness & often the reason why most people feel really sleepy after a Christmas lunch especially if Turkey is on the menu.

Try and have your room as dark as possible, block out curtains are a great investment. This helps to boost melatonin levels.

If you live in an area where humidity is very low .. having a diffuser in the room with Easy air Blend and Frankincense Essential Oil helps with easy breathing. One of the many uses of Frankincense Essential Oil is that it calms the body and mind. You can also make a linen spray and spray it on your bedding and room.

Sleeping in a cool room with comfortable bedding is a added bonus for great sleep.

There are many essential oil blends that can be used topically before going to sleep. A simple yet effective essential oil like Lavender essential oil mixed with some carrier oil under the feet can help for sleep.

Some people need a more stronger blend, Oils like Patchouli, Vetvier, Copaiba, Cedarwood Essential oil are a few oils which can be combined with Lavender Essential Oil and other combos to make a wonderful sleepy time oil.
