Why choosing a natural fibre option like Bamboo is best for baby & home?

When I was first introduced to the idea of Bamboo Fabric which was a few years ago I was not sure about using Bamboo Fabric especially a blanket for a baby, Because the first thought that comes to mind is that its like wood… But I must say its one of the most  beautiful Fabric I have ever felt and used. Its softness is like cashmere and has thermoregulating (won’t overheat) properties and a great comfortable weight.

Bamboo Fabric its is quite new to the South African market and gaining popularity very fast because of its amazing properties. The reason for the noticeable price difference is that its truly unique in the properties it possesses.

All our Bamboo Products are Made in South Africa, which is great for our economy. The raw bamboo is only imported, the entire process of raw bamboo to yarn to blanket is done here in S.A beautifully woven on an Antique Loom

Below are some interesting facts about Bamboo products:

Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of the bamboo grass, the bamboo fibre is then made by pulping the bamboo grass until it separates into thin threads of fibre, which is then spun and dyed for weaving into cloth.

  1. Antibacterial-This is because bamboo possesses an anti-bacteria and bacteriostatic bio-agent called “Bamboo Kun”, allowing it to naturally flourish and grow in the wild without the use of pesticides or fertilizers. This beneficial quality of the plant remains in its textile form, killing all bacteria keeping the wearer feeling fresher and odour free for longer, making the garment healthier and more hygienic.
  2. Highly sweat absorbent (Pulls moisture from skin for evaporation – moisture wicking)- Bamboo is extremely breathable. The natural bamboo plant keeps itself cool in the heat and like its other properties, is also maintained in its fabric form.
  3. Powerfully insulating- The cross-section of the bamboo fibre is covered with micro-gaps giving the fabric better moisture absorption and ventilation. As a result, it is able to keep the wearer almost two degrees cooler in the heat and noticeably warmer in the cold.
  4. One of the softest fabrics on the planet-Bamboo fabric is similar to the softness of silk. Since the fibres are without chemical treatment, they are naturally smoother and rounder.
  5. Naturally UV protectant- Bamboo fabric is also “anti static and UV protective as it cuts out 98% of harmful UV rays”
  6. Hypo-allergenic- with no sharp spurs to irritate the skin, making bamboo fabric hypo-allergenic and perfect for those who experience allergic reactions to other natural fibres such as wool or hemp.
  7. Most eco-friendly fabric on the planet- Bamboo is 100% biodegradable. Bamboo plants are the fastest growing plants on earth (some species can grow over 100cm in a single day!) and therefore highly sustainable and replenishable. Bamboo is fast becoming the most eco-friendly material of the 21st century. It also generates up to 35% more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees whilst sequestering more carbon dioxide than other forested trees.

I love the fact that it is anti-bacterial, and super soft!!! My babies skin is sensitive to so many products and linen, so the hypo-allergenic point makes it a bonus and must buy!!!

  2. Natalee says:

A well rounded product to invest in, our climate can be temperamental at the best of times, our economy and job force needs all the support, the vanishing traditional fabrication of fabrics used, its great to see a product that ticks all these boxes.
